Steroids Dose in Septic Shock.
Hydrocortisone (a 50-mg intravenous bolus four times per day)
and
Fludrocortisone (50 mcg PO per day)
for seven days
Patients in septic shock showed improved survival in comparison with controls.
Combination therapy was beneficial even in patients with elevated base-line
plasma cortisol levels if their serum cortisol level did not increase by more
than 9 µg per deciliter when stimulated by adrenocorticotropic hormone.
Somewhat worrisome was the fact that patients who did not have adrenal
insufficiency and who received corticosteroids had a slight, albeit not
statistically significant, trend toward increased mortality
